Women Walking Together

By, For, And About Orthodox Women – Axia Women is an Orthodox women’s organization connecting all Orthodox women across all jurisdictions.

‘Good Things Happen When Orthodox Women Walk Together.’

St. Xenia of Petersburg lived a prophetic life as a fool-for-Christ, wandering St. Petersburg for forty-five years.

St. Matushka Olga of Alaska sewed mukluks to bless and protect her community as they walked.

Saint Egeria walked the streets of the Holy Land, sending back words of encouragement to a circle of women.

St. Demiana journeyed in place with forty women as they built a religious community in Egypt.

Mother Maria of Paris strode the streets of her city each night, offering refuge and sanctuary to all in need.

St. Matrona, although blind and eventually lame, welcomed the pilgrimage of hundreds who sought her for physical and spiritual healing.

St. Nino of Georgia persisted through the long and dangerous journey from Jerusalem in order to bring the Gospel.

Every moment, we walk in the company of the women who have gone before, mothers of the faith both named and unnamed, testifying with ferocity and faith to the Spirit of wisdom and healing.

We walk, always, in the company of the Myrrhbearing Women, who went in mourning to the tomb to care for the body of Christ and discovered instead His resurrection.

And every day, in churches and communities around the world, women like you continue in their footsteps, inspiring and supporting one another on our journey.

This year Axia’s focus has been on pilgrimage – the many ways we journey alongside one another towards God. Whether a literal walk, a spiritual encounter, or other experiences that take us out of our day-to-day life and transport us to a place of prayerfulness and deep connection, our mission at Axia remains the same: to connect all Orthodox women to Christ.

In the coming year, we are so excited to continue our online resources while creating more in-person opportunities to build community! Some of our plans for 2024 include:

1. Bringing local walking pilgrimage events to parishes

2. In-person gatherings of Axia Women Scholars and supporting female seminary students

3. And…our upcoming Myrrh-bearing Women Pilgrimage!
