Prayers

Please pray for our brother parishioner. He is in the hospital here undergoing treatment for heart problems. May God have mercy and restore his health.

‘Spotless Lady, Mother of God, hope of those who run to thee, and haven of those in distress, obtain grace for me from the merciful One, Thy Son and Creator, by thy prayers’ – Theotokion after song 2 of the Wednesday Great Compline.

Here is a good article on the 7th Century Canon of St. Andrew of Crete which we are now half way through at the church (the rest at 6pm on Wednesday, March 20 and Thursday, March 21)

“The Great Canon of St Andrew, Bishop of Crete, is the longest canon in all of our services, and is associated with Great Lent, since the only times it is appointed to be read in church are the first four nights of Great Lent (Clean Monday through Clean Thursday, at Great Compline, when it is serialized) and at Matins for Thursday of the fifth week of Great Lent, when it is read in its entirety (in this latter service, the entire life of St Mary of Egypt is also read).

The canon is a dialog between St. Andrew and his soul.”
